Aaron Garcia (1990, Chicago) is a Brooklyn based composer and guitarist. Aaron's music is heavily influenced by the DIY punk scene and actively aims to blur the lines between band/ensemble and song/composition.
Aaron co-owns and operates the post-genre indie label, people | places | records, performs bass in Massa Nera—an internationally touring screamo band from NJ, and performs guitar in this place is actually the worst, post-trees, and small caps.
Aaron holds a Master of Music in Theory and Composition degree from New York University where they studied privately with Michael Gordon and Julia Wolfe. Aaron received their Bachelor of Music degree at Columbia College Chicago. Past composition teachers include Marcos Balter, David Reminick, Drew Baker, Tim Edwards, and Ilya Levinson. Aaron has been a fellow at the Bang on a Can Summer Festival (2017) and the Gabriela Lena Frank Creative Academy of Music (2018).
When not writing or performing, Aaron is an active freelance stage manager and crew member at events like the Bang on a Can Marathon, Winter Jazz Festival, Newport Jazz Festival, Guitar Mash, and more. Aaron is the Music Production and Library Assistant at Trinity Wall Street.
Aaron enjoys biking, sci-fi, video games, and vegetarian tacos. They live in Brooklyn with their partner and two cats.
